The Sunsphere.

Ever since I was little I would always go to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for Vacation. From Memphis it's about an 8-9 hour drive, and it was worth every minute of being in the car with my brother for that long. In order to get to Gatlinburg, you have to go through Knoxville. Beautiful city! gosh. I remember seeing the Sunsphere for the first time, & asking my mom what it was. Of course she didn't know, but I knew I loved♥ that thing, whatever it was. The Sunsphere was built in Knoxville, Tennessee as the symbol of the 1982 World's Fair. The Golden Globe that sits on top of the 266 foot high tower is layered in 24 karat gold dust, & was to have had a diameter of 86.5 feet to represent the 865,000-mile diameter of the sun. Can you say "Wonder of the World?" Every picture I see of The Sunsphere just screams at me! It's a great thing, but no one has really ever used it for anything. Yea, there have been some restaurants and sky bars built in it, but why would you built something so beautiful to just use it for something so dull?

1991

In March 1991 The Pensacola Tornadoes thought about making The Sunsphere home to their offices.

1994

Someone tried to make The Sunsphere a restaurant.

1999

The Sunsphere is proposed to be included as part of the newly constructed Knoxville Convention Center.

2005

Another restaurant offer.

2007

Wayne and Laura Freeman, were married on the observation deck.

2008

On August 27, 2008 the 5th floor was opened as the SkyBox bar and lounge.

Why can't people make things and then put them to good use? The Sunsphere has been sitting there for 27 years. It hurts me that something so wonder (well atleast to me it is.) would stand there and rust. :( I want to make The Sunsphere something wonder and magnificent again.

What can I say?

(thanks wikipedia.com for all the info.)
